What to pack for your trip to Jordan

The climate in Jordan is characterized by hot and sunny summers, and by a long period of sunshine, with clear skies from May to September. The rains (where they occur) are concentrated from November to March.

Super-comfy walking shoes. If you are planning to do a lot of walking, the key is to be comfortable. Try to avoid bringing shoes you have not broken in. Tennis shoes (trainers, sneakers), hiking shoes or other types of durable sports shoes are probably your best bet. If you don't want to look like a tourist, dress fashionable! It might be a good idea to pack a not-too-bulky pair of trail runners, such as Saucony’s Peregrine 7 for men or women, that hold up well on wet and dry ground.

Don't forget your swimwear for your long soaks in hot tubs! You’ll also want a space-saving microfiber towel like the Sea to Summit DryLite towel. A pair of sandals, like Chaco's Z/VOLV or Ecotread, will give you better traction on wet surfaces than a standard pair of flip-flops.

Sun protection year round, especially for the summer months. Along with an effective bug repellent and great sunscreen, bring a wide-brimmed hat – when the sun is out in Jordan it is quite strong year round.

Power adapter and charger. In Jordan the power plugs and sockets are of type C, D, F, G and J. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. These power adapters are included in this world adapter set from Bestek, and a multiport charger, like Anker’s compact Powerport 4.

Packing cubes. They not only keep your suitcase organized, but also compact your clothes to save space. One of frequent travellers'favorites are Eagle Creek‘s Pack-It cubes, which come in different sizes so you can tailor your setup to your needs.

Travel guides. Lonely Planet has a great guide to Jordan – dive kaleidoscopic coral gardens in the Red Sea, channel Lawrence of Arabia and stay at a Bedouin camp at Wadi Rum, and watch the sun set over the honeycombed wonder of Petra.
